Ethan's Review of Death Battle Season 8 (2024)

Sup guys! Ethan here.

So, just like with Season 7, I'll be reviewing each episode of Death Battle Season 8 as they come out throughout the year.

Due to the things I'm planning for this review taking up most of this prologue, I've compiled it all into the spoiler box below:

Spoilers!
My general rules here are the same as last year, albeit a little more defined:
  • I'll be listing off the Pros and Cons of each episode before giving out my general thoughts on it.
  • I'll be rating the episode from 1 to 10, with the occasional decimal point ratings and ratings above 10 here and there if applicable.
  • While I'm gonna factor both into my rating of the episode, I'll be putting more emphasis on the fight and music since:
    • A. I'm not that big of a VS Debater since I'm more on the casual side of things, though I will comment on the analyses and post-analysis whenever necessary.
    • B. The fight (and the music to some extent) is what most people are here to see/rewatch over and over again.

However, due to Season 8 being the season that celebrates 10 Years of Death Battle, there's gonna be a few changes from my Season 7 Review from last year for this specific review:

  1. I'm gonna be a little bit more critical this time around. Since this is the 10th Anniversary Season, I expect Death Battle to bring their "A" Game and produce episodes that are at least on par with Seasons 5 and 6.
  2. I'll be listing my general thoughts and rating of each episode thrice; once when it initially comes out, once after a week has past, and once after the season ends. Since opinions change over time due to rewatches and other's thoughts, this'll be an experiment on how my own thoughts will change throughout the year.
  3. I'll be giving out more realistic/fair ratings. Going off of the previous point, my ratings for last year's review, I was either too generous or harsh on some episode ratings, so I'll try to rate each Season 8 episode fairly.
  4. I'll try to save overall season Pros and Cons when, well, reviewing the season overall. Basically this is for stuff like overall episode quality, matchup least, and if Marvel and DC take up half of the season again.
  5. I'll be sorting the individual Pros and Cons into 3 catergories: Analyses (for stuff in regards to the character rundowns and post-analysis), Fight/Music (for stuff regarding the animation, fight, tracks, and track cover), and Misc. Stuff (for stuff like personal thoughts on the matchup, jokes here and there, and how the official thumbnail looks) This is moreso to keep things more organized than anything regarding Season 8, and I may keep this for later Season Reviews if you guys like it.

And because why not, I'll try not to complain about Season 7 a lot throughout this review (and by extension, this whole year). Everyone's already heard me talk about Season 7's overall weaker episode quality, Marvel/DC taking up half of the season, and Barbara vs Gwen in general enough times throughout the two months of waiting for Season 8 to the point where it's become pretty much annoying, so even though I will bring it up here and there (mostly for my general thoughts), I'll be striving to not make this another Season 7 rant fest and keep it to mostly seeing how Season 8 is.

With all of that said, I hope you enjoy this!

Episode 1: Yoda vs King Mickey[]

Battle of the Banned

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Both analyses were really good!
  • I like how Yoda's character arc was represented in his analysis.
  • I like the Wiz & Boomstick segment in Mickey's analyses.
  • Correct outcome and reasoning.

Fight/Music[]

  • The fights's awesome! Hightlights include:
    • All the times Yoda and Mickey clashed their weapons (aside from the first time).
    • Yoda ditching his lightsaber in favor of the force midway through the fight.
    • Yoda hitting Mickey with his staff.
    • This shot of Mickey.
    • Yoda using the Force to send his starship into the platform he and Mickey were fighting on.
    • Yoda's Force Ghost appearing at the end.
  • Both Yoda and Mickey's VAs did a good job voicing both characters.
  • Dialogue Highlights:
    • "Proof you are, that size matters not! -Laughs-" "Right back at you, pal!"
    • "The path to victory, this is not. The Force, I must trust!"
    • "Surrender, you should. The power of the Force, you have not!" " can try! All I need... IS THE LIGHT!" "Do, or not not... There is no try!"
  • Hearts of Light is an amazing orchestral piece!
  • Hears of Light's track over is awesome. The name's good too.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • Nice to see Yoda finally get onto Death Battle!
  • It feels good to see our first non-Marvel vs DC premiere after 3 years.
  • The official thumbnail is simple and clean (not sorry).
  • I like the addition of the "10 YEARS" on the DB doors for this season.
  • I'm liking that new KO sound effect after the fight!
  • Pretty good ending pun there, Boomstick. That got a chuckle outta me.

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • The Wiz & Boomstick segment in Yoda's analysis is the weaker of the two in this episode.
  • The part where they talked about Ashoka in Yoda's analysis for a bit felt out of place.

Fight/Music[]

  • Yoda and Mickey's initial clash looked a bit stiff.
  • No Lego Yoda death sound.
  • Hearts of Light *does* kind of spoil King Mickey winning (even though it was agreed that Mickey beats Yoda more times than not).

Misc. Stuff[]

  • RIP Yoda vs Meta Knight (though Zero was MK's best opponent anyway).
  • Them starting out the episode with Yoda and King Mickey's names before going into their connections was weird.
  • Yeah, that's about it.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

Man, what a way to start off the season! Both analyses were pretty good (aside from the out of place Ashoka comments in Yoda's analysis), and the animation's a big step up from Batgirl vs Spider-Gwen and has its fair share of great moments. Also, Mickey winning is epic. I don't have that many problems with this episode for this initial review.

  • ★INITIAL RATING: 8/10★

One Week Later[]

Not much has changed here, though I will bump up the score a bit since the Cons aren't big enough to give this episode an 8.

  • ★REVISED RANKING: 9/10★

End of Season[]

  • ★FINAL RATING:???/10★

Episode 2: Shadow vs Ryūko[]

Red, Black, and One in the Same

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Both analyses were pretty good!
  • KLK being Shadow's favorite anime being referenced twice.
  • High numbers! You love to see it!
  • Correct outcome and solid reasoning.
    • FIRST SONIC DUB AFTER 5 YEARS, BABY!!!

Fight/Music[]

  • The fight's great! Highlights include:
    • Both of Ryūko's transformation sequences.
    • Shadow's ditching his gun for the Black Sword.
    • Shadow's Inhibitor Rings being cut off and Shadow bursting out of the giant Scissor Blades.
    • A lot more.
  • The puppet animation for Ryūko is great! Like, it's on par with Miles vs Static.
  • VAs for Shadow, Ryūko, and Senketsu were great for the most part!
  • Dialogue Highlights:
    • "Hey! You cut me off, asshat!" "Hmph. Who cares?"
    • "Aww, did your mommy packed that sword for you?"
    • Hmph, faker. as a nice reference to SA2 and callback to Vegeta vs Shadow.
    • "Sayonara, dipsh*t!"
  • The killing blow was visually great.
  • Chaos Unraveled is an amazing track with a great title and track cover.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • I'm happy for the people that wanted this episode.
  • RIP Ryūko vs Akame.
  • Official thumbnail is rad!

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • The Wiz and Boomstick segment in both analyses kind of went nowhere.
  • Moreso a nitpick, but they listed Black Tornado as a Chaos ability when it isn't.
  • Matoi and Kiryūin being mispronounced. Not a big deal, but considering how often it's said in KLK...
  • This is moreso because it's an editing mistake, but Ryūko being listed as 3' 3" instead of 5'4" while calculating the Scissor Blades' Alumni Mode.

Fight/Music[]

  • Ryūko sounded off at some points.
  • Shadow saying "Chaos Blast." needed to be louder/have more emphasis.
  • "Hmph, I'm the coolest." Sounds like something Sonic would say and not Shadow (even though he said it in SA2).

Misc. Stuff[]

  • RIP Ryūko vs Masane.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

God, who would've thought an matchup I was initially against would end up becoming an episode that I consider amazing! Aside from a few nitckpicky complaints, everything just fell into place here! I like how this episode gave high numbers to both combatants, especially when compared to Mario vs Sonic (2018). The fight's spectacular and has many awesome moments, Chaos Unraveled is amazing track, and Shadow finally got the respect he deserves. In short, an amazing episode.

  • ★INITIAL RATING: 9/10★

One Week Later[]

My opinion on this episodes hasn't been changed drastically.

  • ★REVISED RANKING: 9/10★

End of Season[]

  • ★FINAL RATING:???/10★

Episode 3: Lex Luthor vs Doctor Doom[]

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Both analyses were pretty good!
  • The Wiz and Boomstick segment in Doom's analysis. If you know me, you know why.
  • Correct outcome and pretty good reasoning.
  • Boomstick holding a giant L in the post-analysis.
  • The ending pun was pretty good.

Fight/Music[]

  • The fight managed to surprise me with how good it is! Highlights include...basically the whole thing, but for some specific ones:
    • Lex using his 2D Imprisonment thing to trap Doom in (something I wasn't expecting) Doom using his Time-Shift Bomb to get out.
    • The whole "FOOTDIVE!" combo and Lex breaking out of it.
    • Lex beating up Doom a bit after being hit into the Everyman Project.
    • The use of the Ovid Mind Transfer in the climax. Again, if you know me, you know why.
  • Gianni Matragrano's Lex voice has certainly improved since Tony vs Lex.
  • Steven Kelly does a great Doom voice.
  • Pretty much all of the dialogue was great! It has a balance of arrogance, cheesiness, and seriousness.
  • The killing blow was definitely creative (in part of it utilizing body swapping to start it off), and I like the shot of Lex being split into 6.
  • Apex of Doom's a pretty cool track name, and the cover, while simple, is good!
  • I love the techno-industrial feel of Apex of Doom.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • Nice to see these two return for updated analyses...
  • RIP Doom vs Black Adam.
  • It managed to be better than Tony vs Lex's climax (in my opinion, at least).

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • Yeah...I got nothing major to list here, if at all.

Fight/Music[]

  • I'm surprised that there wasn't a Doombot...at all during the fight (unless Doom in the fight actually was a Doombot).

Misc. Stuff[]

  • ...but I wasn't hyped initially for them fighting each other. Not that the MU is bad, just sayin'.
  • I wasn't keen on Lex returning at first due to how epic Tony vs Lex's climax was.
  • RIP Doom vs Gilgamesh.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

Now, you might be expecting me to rant about this episode and comparing it to Tony vs Lex...but I'm not. Because this episode managed to be surprisingly great! The research was pretty good (though Thor's speed feat is faster compared to previous episodes it was featured in...just wanted to point that out) and the fight had many standout moments, both in terms of the animation and the dialogue. This episode was basically flawless aside from minor nitpicks that don't affect it that much, if at all, and it managed to do the Herculean feat of topping Tony vs Lex's climax. Nicely done, Death Battle!

Also, body swapping was featured twice in the episode, so that makes it automatically great.

  • ★INITIAL RATING: 10/10★

One Week Later[]

So, being a bit more critical, this most likely ain't topping Tony vs Lex's climax, but it's certainly better than Tony vs Lex as a whole. Still no major flaws that I can see.

  • ★REVISED RANKING: 10/10★

End of Season[]

  • ★FINAL RATING:???/10★

Episode 4: Heihachi Mishima vs Geese Howard[]

Tourney of Kings

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Both analyses were good for the most part.
  • The return of Mecha-Goose Howard in Geese's analysis.
  • Pretty good post analysis that explains the victor in a pretty close match in my eyes.
  • The ending pun is so bad, it's good.

Fight/Music[]

  • The fight's pretty great! Highlights include:
    • All 4 PREDICTABOs.
    • Geese causing the volcano to erupt via his Raging Storm.
    • The two fighting while the volcano is sprewing lava from the sides.
    • Heihachi throwing Geese into the volcano.
  • Heihachi and Geese's movements looked pretty good.
  • Both VAs did a great job on their respective characters.
    • Dialogue Highlights:
    • All 4 PREDICTABOs.
    • "Had enough? These fists are still fresh if your nose is having fun."
    • "I will stain my hands with your blood, old man."
    • "YOU CANNOT ESCAPE FROM DEATH!"
    • "Back to hell with you!"
    • "Show's over."
  • The death...f***ing brutal, man!
  • I love Kings of Iron. It's such a great bop!
  • Kings of Iron's track image is sick.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!!! THIS FINALLY HAPPENED!!!
  • There's not an abundance of unfunny "Boomstick's Dad" jokes.
  • Official thumbnail is pretty good.

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • The Wiz and Boomstick segment in Heihachi's analyses could've been shorter.
  • I find it weird they used the JACK's meteor feat in this episode when it wasn't used in Ryu vs Jin, but that's probably just me.

Fight/Music[]

  • A shame this isn't in 3D.
  • Heihachi's voiced could've sounded a bit deeper at the beginning.
  • Subtitles for Geese, please?
  • Kings of Iron isn't a bad name, but it could be better.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • Uh.....I got nothin'.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

Man, this lived up to my hype! The "Boomstick's Dad" jokes didn't take up a lot of the episode unlike Zuko vs Shoto, but more importantly, the episode in general was handled pretty good! The analyses and research were fairly well done and, even though I find it weird they considered the JACK meteor feat this time around, I guess you can chalk this up to improved research. Anyway, the fight's pretty good too despite it not being in 3D, with lots of great moments of action and interactions between the two fighters. And that death...man, that was brutal. In short, a solid episode with flaws that don't drag it down too much.

  • ★INITIAL RATING: 8.5/10★

One Week Later[]

My opinion hasn't changed that much for the score to change.

  • ★REVISED RANKING: 8.5/10★

End of Season[]

  • ★FINAL RATING:???/10★

Episode 5: Blake vs Mikasa[]

Titanic Shadows

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Both analyses were...alright.
  • The Wiz and Boomstick segment in Blake's analyses.
  • Correct outcome and pretty good reasoning.
  • The ending pun's really good.

Fight/Music[]

  • The fight's alright for the most part.
    • I like the part where Blake gets her arm cut off V3 style.
  • Francesca Calo did a good job voicing Mikasa.
  • Killing blow's unique.
  • Thunder shroud's track cover's pretty good!
  • Thunder Shroud is such a banger.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • I'm happy for the people that wanted this.
  • Tha's about it...

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • Both analyses aren't that interesting upon rewatches.
  • Racism joke in Blake's Analysis.
  • The Nevermore calc is wrong.
  • The fact the Wiz and Boomstick segment in Mikasa's preview was basically a drawn-out fart joke.
  • Mikasa's analysis just abruptly ends.

Fight/Music[]

  • Not many memorable/noteworthy things happen in the fight.
    • I'm also disappointed the Titans didn't play a bigger role in the fight. Would've liked to see some in the background throughout it as opposed to a shadow of one at the end.
  • Wile looking fairly good for the most part, the Might^2 style of animation didn't work as well in this fight.
  • I'm disappointed with the lack of fun dialogue in this fight, especially considering Blake just reused voice clips for some reason.
    • Blake's "Inconming!" at the end doesn't jive well with me.
  • "Thunder Shroud" is a dumb name, especially compared to the commissioned track for this MU having the name of "Titanic Shadows".

Misc. Stuff[]

  • Kind of indifferent on this one: I don't love it, but I don't hate it either.
  • The "RWBY BIAS!!1!!11!1!!" comments.
  • Official thumbnail could be better.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

You know, I'm glad many people like this episode. For me though...it left me a bit underwhelmed. While the analyses were good and Thunder Shroud's currently my favorite track of the season, the fight was kind of left me wanting more. There aren't many noteworthy or memorable things I can point out besides Blake's arm getting cut off and the unique killing blow. Same thing can be said for the dialogue; Blake's lines are reused voice clips and, while good, Mikasa's aren't anything to run home about. Overall, a fine episode with a stellar track and a fight that felt like something was missing.

  • ★INITIAL RATING: 6/10★

One Week Later[]

So, after watching Nemesis and Biff Weed's reviews on the episode talking with peeps on the DBCD, I'm deciding to lower this episode's score down a bit. My views on the analyses are a little more negative (especially with the Nevermore feat calc being wrong), the racism joke and fart joke aren't that great, the fight's still unmemorable/unremarkable for the most part, the framerate still isn't as good as it was in Might^2, and I'm still off-putted by Blake's lack of original lines, with her "Incoming!" at the end coming off as really off-putting considering her aura was broken, her arm was cut off, and she killed Mikasa moments earlier. Thunder Shoud being a banger does not save the episode from a low score.

  • ★REVISED RANKING: 4/10★

End of Season[]

  • ★FINAL RATING:???/10★

Episode 6: Iron Fist vs Po[]

Fists of Awesomeness

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Both analyses were really good!
  • Pretty good Wiz and Boomstick segments in both analyses.
  • the ending clips for both were actually good this time around!
  • Correct outcome and a reasoning that I really like.

Fight/Music[]

  • The fight was awesome! Highlights include:
    • The way the fight started.
    • Po falling down the stairs.
    • The whole Wuxi Finger Hold segment.
    • The chi dragon fight in the climax.
  • Love the aesthetic of the Spirit Realm, even if it doesn't look exactly like how it is in KFP3.
  • Po's sprite is pretty good!
  • Jonathan Bullock's Danny voice is good.
  • Austin Lee Matthew nails it as Po! It's pretty much a spot-on Jack Black.
  • I really love the friendly banter both Po and Danny have between each other throughout the fight.
  • Dragons & Dumplings...unique name. I like it!
  • I like the simplicity of the track cover for Dragons and Dumplings.
  • I like how Dragons & Dumplings captures the essence of Kung-Fu Panda.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • Did not expect this to happen this season, but I'm not complaining!
  • RIP Iron Fist vs Liu Kang and Po vs Emmet.
  • Official thumbnail looks good!
  • This episode got me to rewatch the KFP Trilogy...twice.

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • I guess the analyses could've been a bit longer.

Fight/Music[]

  • Kind of sad it's not in Luis' hand-drawn style.
  • Sad that Po doesn't don his Dragon Warrior attire in the climax.
  • I do with the chi dragon clash went on a bit longer.
  • I find it a little weird that Po's popping off at the end after killing Danny.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • A little annoyed that the title's not "Po vs Iron Fist".
  • My first viewing of this via stream was lagging and had muffled audio quality, so that kind of dampened my first experience watching it a bit.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

I was hyped for this episode (I mean, it was #15 of my Most Wanted MUs) and...it delivered! Both analyses were pretty good and do a good job explaining the combatants and their movesets. THe real highlight, though, is the fight. It's not perfect by any means, but it's got charm to it. The interactions between Po and Iron Fist are good, especially the Wuxi Finger Hold segment. And the climax in the Spirit Realm with the chi dragons, while short, was pretty epic. Po basically popping off after the killing blow is a little odd, though. In short, an episode that, while not as perfect as some others this season, is still a good watch.

Yeah...I kind of gotten sidetracked with other stuff that I forgot about this.

Anyway, looking into this episode more, the analyses being so good and the charm this episode radiates is enough for me to bump up the score for this one.

Episode 7: Steven Universe vs Star Butterfly[]

Forces of the Universe

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Steven's analyses was pretty good, as well as his ending clip.
  • Correct outcome.
  • We got half of the "Star Steven, Universal Star" joke.
  • Boomstick's ending pun here is pretty good

Fight/Music[]

  • Overall, the fight's pretty good! Highlights include:
    • Steven picking up Star and putter her down a few feet further away, with the latter not reacting to it.
    • Redrunner and GumballViking's cameos.
  • Steven turning ito the Chad Pink Steven.
    • Watermelon Stevens vs Warnicorn Stampede and Spider with a Top Hat.
  • Both Steven and Star's VAs did a great job! Both of their sprites look good as well.
  • Dialogue Highlights:
    • "What did sandcastles ever do to you?!" "Hmmm, I dunno!"
    • "What's wrong with you? Just...leave me...ALOOOOOOOOONNNE!!!"
    • "WAR CRYYYY!!"
    • "see ya later, pinkie!"
    • "Goodbye, weird bug girl."
    • "NEVER SURRENDER!"
  • The killing blow...brutal.
  • Stars of the Universe has a pretty cool name and cover.
  • Stars of the Universe slaps!

Misc. Stuff[]

  • I was excited for this episode!...

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • Star's analysis is all over the place in terms of listing her feats.
  • Questionable ending clip for Star. Not that's bad, just makes her look like a psychopath.
  • Reasoning...is not the best.
    • They said Steven didn't master his Pink State, which is...wrong.
    • We got half of the "Star Steven, Universal Star" joke.

Fight/Music[]

  • Lots of unused scenes and missed potential, as seen here.
  • While understandable, I'm kind of disappointed Monster Steven didn't show up.
  • While unintentional, Star can be portrayed as a psychopath for committing "genocide" at the end.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • ...but not for the toxic fans or both series.
  • Not sure how to feel about every combatant reveal for Season 8 except for Cloud being in the first half of the season as of writing this.
  • Official thumbnail, while good, could be better.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

This episode was pretty good!...but it's not perfect. Steven's analyses was pretty solid while Star's was all over the place. The fight's good and has it's fair share of epic moments, but I can definitely see people interpreting Star as a psychopath, especially with the killing blow. The post-analysis also isn't that great compared to others this season. Stars of the Universe is a pretty bangin' track, though, so that's a plus. Overall, good, but not great.

  • ★INITIAL RATING: 7.5/10★

One Week Later[]

Thinking about it more, I'm gonna bump down the score of this episode slightly due to some missed potential for the fight and me being more critical to Star's analysis and her characterization in the fight.

Episode 8: Link vs Cloud 2: Legendary Boogaloo[]

Legendary Fantasy

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Both rundowns were both solid!
  • I liked the Wiz and Boomstick segment in Link's analysis.
  • Correct outcome and very good reasoning.

Fight/Music[]

  • The fight's epic as hell! Highlights include:
    • Link' versatility in this fight and how much more unique his arsenal was this time around.
    • The FF7 UI for Cloud at the beginning and end of the fight.
    • Cloud falling.
    • Link breaking pots.
    • The dual time stop.
    • The Four Swords coming into play and how expressive the other Links were.
      • Red Link.
    • Link using the Magic Cape from ALTTP of all things to dodge Cloud.
    • The Song of Storms segment that leads to Link using the Skyward Strike.
    • Link using Mipha's Grace before going Fierce Deity.
  • Adam Gibbs is good as Cloud.
  • That killing blow was awesome! Nice callback to the climax of the OG fight, as well as Ganondorf vs Dracula.
  • Final Breah:
    • Good name for the track (even if I prefer Legendary Fantasy for the title).
    • Great track art.
    • Awesome track!

Misc. Stuff[]

  • LES FRIGGIN' GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
  • Official TN is actually pretty good!

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • This episode's ending pun from Boomstick is the worst one we got so far.

Fight/Music[]

  • The effects of the Ancient Arrow hitting Fenrir...isn't that great.
  • Fierce Deity Link could've been around a bit longer, but eh.
  • Cloud's Ribbon just randomly appears on him before he's struck by Link's Spin Dash.
  • 0/10 no bahaumut

Misc. Stuff[]

  • Not sure how to feel about this episode not being Episode 150.
  • The reveal of Batman appearing for the 4th time, though I'm more very conflicted about that than outright mad.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

Man, what a phenomenal way to end the first half this season!...and what a way to reveal the start of the second half, but this part of the review ain't about Batman's 4th time on the show, so that aside...yeah, this episode's great!

The analyses were solid and all, but the real attraction is the animation. It's...awesome. There's so many cool moments throughout the fight and the killing blow is an epic sight to behold. It also helps that the banger that is Final Breath is backing the fight; the track is a great mix of Zelda and Final Fantasy-esque instruments with nods to both series in it. The episode does have minor flaws (namely the lack of Bahaumut and Fierce Deity Link not being on as long as he should've), but other than that, it's a fun watch.

Episode 9: Batman vs Iron Man[]

Batman For The 4th Time

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Analyses were fairly well done.
  • The editing in the analyses were really good.
  • Post analysis is pretty good.
  • ...das about it.

Fight/Music[]

  • FIght was pretty good. Highlights include:
    • The call-back to Batman vs Black Panther.
    • Bruce using the Watchtower to bonk Tony.
    • Bruce basically destroying all of Tony's army of armors.
    • The Beam-O-War.
  • Gianni Matragrano is great as Bruce!
  • Reagan Murdock does a pretty good Tony voice.
  • Dialogue Highlights:
    • "Seriously, Bats? I figured out hacking in the second grade! How'd you think I got in here?! Besides from-"
      • "Had to divert some power to hacking that suit. Like I said, second grade."
    • "Really, Bruce? This shtick? I thought we were grown-ups here!"
    • "What did you expect? I am Batman." " And I... Am Iron Man."
    • "I've got a suit for everything, Bats! Including busting wannabe gods like you!"
    • "Friday, I could really use a drink."
  • Killing blow was creative. I like that!
  • Suit Yourself sounds cool.
  • Suit Yourself as a title got a chuckle outta me.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • We get to see the Hellbat in action. That's something.

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • The 360 No Scope joke in Bruce's analysis.
  • Darkseid scale is kinda sus.
  • Franklin Richards scaling is kinda sus.
  • Ending pun was...okay.

Fight/Music[]

  • A shame Tony's VA in Tony vs Lex didn't make a return here, but it's fine in the long run.
  • No Final Batsuit in the fight.
  • There could've been more destruction tbh.
  • Suit Yourself's track cover leaves a lot to be desired, and therefore has become my least favorite track cover as of writing this.
  • It's a minor thing, but there's a pause during 1:03-1:05 of Suit Yourself, and I'm bothered by it.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • Batman returning for the 4th time was an initial sour note.
  • This kind of makes Lex vs Doom redundant in retrospect.
  • The official thumbnail on YouTube does not look as good as the RTX or Twitter thumbnails.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

And so, my perfect streak this season comes to an end. Anyway, this episode was good. The editing in the analysis was....really good. Like, really good. The fight itself was good too with some neat moments here and there. Suit Yourself sounds neat, but I need to listen to it once it's out to give my full thoughts on it. Glad Tony won, but I'm not sure if I buy him scaling to Franklin Richards (or Bruce scaling to Darksied). Overall, good episode, not much to comment on.

  • ★INITIAL RATING: 7/10★

One Week Later[]

My opinion of the episode is the same, so I'll take the time here to review Suit Yourself. It's a good track with a good name! I like AC/DC vibes and the lyrics accompanying them basically being about Tony gloating to Bruce, and the Batman-esque orchestral parts sound good as well and flow nicely from the AC/DC parts. There is a little pause during the 1:03-1:05 mark of the song, but that's nothing compared to the (in my opinion) pretty plain track cover. I...honestly expected something more grand for this matchup's cover art, and instead we got 5 Batman cowls with sorta-Iron Man/Amogus-looking faceplates and...I'm left underwhelmed at that. Definitely my least favorite track cover so far. That doesn't tank the overall score, though.

Episode 10: Goku Black vs Reverse-Flash[]

A Flash of Rose Reversal

The Pros[]

Analyses[]

  • Both analyses were really good!
  • Wiz and Boomstick having a hard time wrapping around Black and Thawne's time-f*ckery.
  • Correct outcome and really good reasoning.

Fight/Music[]

  • Everything related to the fight is basically perfect.
  • Reverse Rosé Is great to listen to.
    • The lyrics incorporated the "IT WAS ME, BARRY!" meme, so it wins bonus points.
  • Reverse Rosé's cover art is good.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • OH f*ck YES!!!!

The Cons[]

Analyses[]

  • That ending pun is pretty bad.

Fight/Music[]

  • Reverse Rosé kinda sounds clunky to me.
  • Reverse Rosé's cover art, while good, probably could've had more going on.

Misc. Stuff[]

  • Official thumbnail is fine, but could use a small amount of adjustment.

My General Thoughts[]

Initial[]

best episode of the season not gonna lie wiz

But seriously, this episode did the MU justice. Like...wow, just.......wow. This was awesome. The fight is definitely the real highlight, with it being pretty much flawless. Everything from the animation itself to the voice acting to Reverse Rosé being a bop culminates into a pretty banger episode.

Episode 11: Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man[]

OH YEAH!!!

The Pros[]

  • OH YEAHHHHH!!!

The Cons[]

  • Luis deciding to show off the claymation segment of the fight on Twitter kinda ruins the surprise of it in the episode proper.
  • I disagree with the results.
  • People trying to demonize Death Battle just because Randy's brutal death in the fight draws an unfortunate parallel to Randy's IRL death. Like...actually f*ck off, you guys.

this episode left me speechless on first viewing ngl wiz

  • Takahata is voicing Alucard (as he should be).
